We’re Blane and Monique, a couple, and a couple of writers, artists and Massage Professionals. In 2014 Monique’s book, “A Dual Path: Sacred Practices and Bodywork“, was published and Blane had published his first existential comic book, ‘The Wrong Door‘ and by the time 2016 rolled around we had been living in the same town for 11 years and were itching to be challenged, to be exposed to new things.
We began by taking a six-month house-sit in Worcester, MA at Heartwell Institute so we could put the money we paid on rent and utilities towards our travels. Mid July we closed our business, got rid of our belongings by selling, donating or giving them away to friends or people in our community and at the end of July, 2016 we went to Chapel Hill, North Carolina to stay with a friend for a week before flying out to our next adventure – a six-month stint in New Zealand beginning with a two and a half month house-sit in Karamea on the south island surrounded on three sides by national park and the Tasman Ocean on the other side. We applied for a 6-month visa but had nothing planned after the house-sit, leaving us open to whatever might come our way!
It’s time for the next step, to be true to my genes, to become the nomad, gypsy, wanderer, vagabond, to see the world, to go out into the vast unknown, to be free of possessions. My goal is not to go from one place to another seeing the highlights of a country but to spend a considerable amount of time in each place, to allow for time to absorb something of the people, place, culture and language. Rather than wanting one place to call home, of becoming part of one particular town or city, I want to be part of the global community.
Traveling takes us out of our comfort zone as we step into a new language, culture, people and environment. It brings us up against the unknown, the unexpected, how it challenges us dissolve and to evolve into someone new.
“The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.”
We went from living in a beautiful seaside town to letting go of everything to following our hearts.
This is that journey, a journey of a lifetime…
